Join the Michigan’s Heritage Park staff as LuAnn McConnell shares the art of spinning. This class is open to the public and any level of spinner is welcome. We will try three different spinning techniques; drop spindle, walking wheel and traditional treadle wheel and work with a variety of fibers. LuAnn will also show us how to make our own simple kniddy knoddy’s and lazy kates spinning tools.
Spinning is not hard to learn and spindle spinning can be amazingly inexpensive! If you knit, crochet, or weave learning to spin your own yarn will enable you to make that special yarns for your projects that you may not find in the store, for a lot less.
This workshop is a part of our preparations to field a spinning team for Spinzilla, an international spinning contest in October. Teams from all over the world compete for the bragging rights of spinning the most yards of yarn in a week. We need a team of 20, so come to the workshop, learn to spin and join our team!
