TEENS/ADULTS

There are many Volunteer positions for teens and adults looking to donate their time and expertise.  You can volunteer at the Lakeshore Museum Center’s main site, the Hackley and Hume Historic Sites, our Collections and Archives Buildings, and the Muskegon Heritage Museum.  You can even volunteer virtually!

Guest Relations Docent

Locations: The Lakeshore Museum Center, Muskegon Heritage Museum.

Enjoy interacting with others? Join our team as a Docent! Guest Relations Docents work at the Lakeshore Museum Center and Muskegon Heritage Museum greeting visitors at special events and programs, offering directions through the Museum, and provide a positive experience to guests at the Museum. 

Interpreter

Locations: The Hackley and Hume Historic Site including the Depression Era House and Fire Barn Museum

Join the Interpretive Team at the Hackley and Hume Historic Sites! Interpreters lead tours through the H&H homes, Depression Era house, and The Fire Barn Museum. If you love history and want to share it with others, this is the position for you!

Collections and Archives

Locations: Archives and Collections Buildings, the Muskegon Heritage Museum

Assist the Collections and Archives department by preserving artifacts, and providing research on 3-D objects and documents. Collections and Archive volunteers help develop research for upcoming exhibits all while gaining more knowledge about Muskegon and the West Michigan community.

Education Docent

Locations: Lakeshore Museum Center, Muskegon Heritage Museum

Volunteer for school tours, play and learn programs, and special programs that center on teaching kids and families about science and history in Muskegon County. Education docents provide supplemental knowledge to exhibits and may be trained on special demonstrations including STEM programs and activities.

Buildings and Exhibits

Locations: All sites!

The Museum is always adding to its historic buildings, designing and constructing new exhibits, plus handling the general wear and tear that comes with maintaining a museum. If you are someone who enjoys working with their hands and creating new materials and structures, volunteer for our exhibits and maintenance department to create something everlasting for the museum and the Muskegon Community! Buildings and Exhibits volunteers will be required to pass additional safety trainings for certain tasks.

Special Events

Location: All sites!

Enjoy the hustle and bustle of loads of people? Assist us with Special Events by prepping behind the scenes, or be on the forefront greeting others, running a program, or other jobs that pop up at larger events and programs.
