Join us on a voyage of discovery in The Literature, Art and History of Gettysburg and the Civil War. This special series of four lectures will be presented on Monday evenings from September 12th-October 3rd at the Lakeshore Museum Center by Muskegon Community College Literature Instructor Michael Johnson, Art Instructor Tim Norris and History Instructors Kurt Troutman and George Maniates.
Heroes and Myths! Harriett Beecher-Stowe, Frederick Douglass, Harriett Tubman and John Brown-Those who dared to dream of a country without slavery as the nation is plunged into secession.
The Killer Angels: The classic historical novel of Gettysburg. Colonel Joshua Chamberlain, recalls reciting to his father the speech from Hamlet: “What a piece of work is man…in action how like an angel!” The father comments, “Well, boy, if he’s an angel, he’s sure a murderin’ angel.”
A House Divided will not stand: Battle lines are drawn in the field and at home resulting in the rise of an invincible Confederate Army and Union forces in leadership chaos.
