Howmet Aerospace began in 1952 as MISCO with the development of the lost wax, investment castings process. The first plant was located just North of Muskegon in Whitehall and today the company has multiple plants in that area. Using titanium, super alloys, and aluminum, the company produces jet and gas turbine engine parts as well as ingots and protective coating services. It is one of the largest employers in Muskegon County.
