SUMMARY:Storytelling Through the Mail: Tall Tale Postcards Exhibit Opening - Museum Center
DESCRIPTION:Story Telling Through the Mail features over 80 examples of “tall tale” postcards from around the country which demonstrate a unique form of popular humor dating back to the early 20th Century.  Tall tales are humorous stories of exaggeration such as gigantic vegetables and fruits\, farm animals\, or wild game and fish. The exhibit is on loan from the Michigan State University Museum. \nThe event includes a special presentation on Michigan postcards from Dianna Stampfler from Promote Michigan at 6pm. DESCRIPTION:Home school students will learn about Animal Adaptations in this hour-long program. Participants will learn what an adaptation is\, the difference between structural and behavioral adaptations\, and some specific adaptations of Michigan animals. Students will also do several experiments to determine what adaptations animals have and how they make it easier for the animal to survive and thrive. SUMMARY:Peeps Diorama Contest and "Peep Hunt" - Museum Center
DESCRIPTION:Create a Michigan-Themed Diorama at home with Peeps as the “people” and bring it to the Museum.   Museum staff members will judge the entries and small prizes will be awarded to the winners. Winning Dioramas will be featured on our Facebook page and displayed in the Museum’s Collector’s Corner case! \nAge categories: 12 and under and 13 and older. \nThe event also includes a Peep Hunt throughout the museum from 4 to 6 pm .  Preregistration is encouraged\, please call 231-722-0278. \nContest Details: \n\nThere will be two categories Children (12 and younger) and Adult/Teen (13 and older).\nEach diorama must use Peeps\, chicks or bunnies\, in place of the ‘Peeple’ and Animals.\nDioramas should be no bigger than a copy paper box.  (17” X 11” – 9” tall)\nDioramas will be judged by the Museum Curators between 4 and 5:30pm with the winners being announced at 5:45.  Need not be present to win.  Entries may be dropped off beginning Tuesday\, March 22nd and must be to the museum no later than 5:15pm on March 24th.\nEntries must have a Michigan history theme. Bonus points will be awarded to entries that have a Muskegon specific history theme.\nPlease also be prepared to provide a title and 1-2 sentence description of your diorama.
