DESCRIPTION:This talk will focus on the importance of pollinators and pollinator gardens\, and what you can do to preserve and create landscapes that benefit bees\, butterflies\, birds\, bats and other pollinators across Michigan. \nSpeaker Chad Hipshier is the District Manager for the Muskegon Conservation District who manages a variety of different natural resource restoration projects.  The Conservation District is a local unit of state government that operates and functions similar to a non-profit organization (including funding). Their visit includes a tour at the Hackleyand Hume Historic Site\, Scolnik House of the Depression Era\, and the Fire Barn Museum. Mother’s will also receive a complementary gift. Tours start in the City Barn (carriage house) at the Hackley and Hume Historic Site. \nTickets: Free For Muskegon County Moms. Other visitors on the day will pay normal admission. \nCombo Ticket $12\nAdults $10\nSeniors $8\nKids 2-12 -$5 \nRegistration Information:No registration required. Visitors are welcomed to walk-in during open hours.Tours leave the City Barn (carriage house) every 20 minutes and leave in groups of 10 or less. The last tour leaves at 4:00 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Honeybee colonies are in decline worldwide. What is happening to our bees? And what is being done about it? Better yet\, what can you do to make a difference? This talk will feature a quick summary of the importance of managed honey bee colonies and dig into the complex and interrelated root causes of their decline. I hope to give you hope and purpose by highlighting some of the ways we can all help the honey bees. \nSpeaker Anne Marie Fauvel is a Faculty Specialist at the University of Maryland working for The Bee Informed Partnership\, coordinating Technical Transfer Teams gathering data\, supporting commercial beekeepers and facilitating honey bee research projects throughout the US.
