DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, May 16 at 6:00 pm for a Fundraising Event in our auditorium. This one-hour program commemorates the American WW II experience of Clarence Zylman\, known as the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.  Muskegon artist Ari Norris and Muskegon Community College history instructor Kurt Troutman will share the story of the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and introduce the public sculpture project.  This event will include light refreshments and a short documentary screening about Zylman. \nWe are proud to partner with the Downtown Muskegon Arts Committee in the unveiling of a memorial sculpture project to honor Zylman. The project is in its early stages and we need your help to meet a scheduled completion date of Memorial Day\, 2018. \nThis program is open to the public; however\, space is limited. SUMMARY:Hackley Day Tours
DESCRIPTION:Muskegon County residents can tour the Hackley & Hume Historic Site FREE on Hackley Day.  In 1888\, the Muskegon Board of Education declared May 25 Hackley Day to recognize the lumber baron for his generous donation which led to the construction of Hackley Public Library.  He and his partner Thomas Hume were two of the most well-known lumber barons in Muskegon. Along with Hackley Library\, Hackley also donated funds for the statues in Hackley Park\, the hospital which bore his name\, and the Muskegon Museum of Art. \nAdmission for other guests is $7 for adults and teens\, $5 for 65 and older\, and free admission for 12 and younger.

The men and women of the Michigan Third are as authentic as possible in their dress and manner as they portray what life was like during the Civil War for the military and civilians. They will set up camp for the weekend which visitors may tour to meet the reenactors. This year\, they will be joined by members of the 9th Kentucky Co. C\, a volunteer Confederate Infantry Unit. Each day\, a drill and battle will be held in Activity Field at the center of the park. \nThe Dodworth Duo will serenade attendees through the park groups both days. They perform songs of soldiers and civilians during the Civil War\, folk melodies\, and popular ballads of the time. Author Erica Emelander\, who wrote the book “Though War Shall Rise Against Me” under the name Marie LaPres\, will speak at 1:00 pm both days. Her book tells the story of 20 year old Jennie Wade and her three friends who lived in Gettysburg when the battle occurred. \nFood from Bone Ends Tex Mex BBQ will be available for purchase at the event on Saturday. On Sunday\, there will be a Church Service in the pavilion at 10:30 am. \nAdmission for this special event weekend is $12 for adults and teens\, $10 for 65 and older\, and $7 for 12 and younger. DESCRIPTION:Visitors are invited to walk along the trail through the park with their leashed\, social dogs and learn about the roles of pets during different times is history. \nVolunteers from the Muskegon Humane Society will be on hand with adoptable dogs from the shelter that visitors can meet. The volunteers will share information about the shelter’s adoption process and will be on hand all day. \nA team from Blessed Dogs LLC will also be on hand. From Noon to 2 pm\, they will offer an AKC Canine Good Citizen and AKC Community Canine Test for $5 for visiting dogs. \nFree dog biscuits will be provide courtesy of Oceana Veterinary Clinic. Water dishes will be available throughout the park. All dogs must be leashed and owners must clean up after their canine friends. \nAll dogs must be leashed\, water stations will be provided\, and pet owners must clean up after their dogs. \n  \n
