DESCRIPTION:Create a Michigan-Themed Diorama at home with Peeps as the “people” and bring it to the Museum.   Museum staff members will judge the entries and small prizes will be awarded to the winners. Winning Dioramas will be featured on our Facebook page and displayed in the Museum’s Collector’s Corner case! \nAge categories: 12 and under and 13 and older. \nThe event also includes a Peep Hunt throughout the museum from 4 to 6 pm .  Preregistration is encouraged\, please call 231-722-0278. \nContest Details: \n\nThere will be two categories Children (12 and younger) and Adult/Teen (13 and older).\nEach diorama must use Peeps\, chicks or bunnies\, in place of the ‘Peeple’ and Animals.\nDioramas should be no bigger than a copy paper box.  (17” X 11” – 9” tall)\nDioramas will be judged by the Museum Curators between 4 and 5:30pm with the winners being announced at 5:45.  Need not be present to win.  Entries may be dropped off beginning Tuesday\, March 22nd and must be to the museum no later than 5:15pm on March 24th.\nEntries must have a Michigan history theme. SUMMARY:Historic Sites Open for the Season
DESCRIPTION:The Hackley & Hume Historic Site\, Fire Barn Museum\, and Scolnik House of the Depression Era will open for the season today.  All three sites will be open Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. Sunday hours are 1 to 4 pm. Admission at the Hackley & Hume Historic Site is $7 for adults and teens\, $5 for 65 and older\, and visitors 12 and younger are admitted free.  Admission is free at the Fire Barn Museum and Scolnik House.  The three sites will be open through October.

DESCRIPTION:Home school students in grades K through 6 are invited to join us for a Home School Monday – Spring Themed program. Participants will learn why seasons change\, and what makes spring\, spring. They’ll visit Hackley Park to discover signs of spring and compare them with observations from fall. SUMMARY:Free Literacy Event at the Historic Sites
DESCRIPTION:Children can enjoy a blanket-fort book reading on the lawn at the Hume house\, plant seeds to take home at the Scolnik House\, and participate in other activities and crafts during a special literacy-related event. Each child in attendance will receive a free book. The FREE event is facilitated by local AmeriCorps Reading Corps members and sponsored by Read Early\, Read Often.
