SUMMARY:Youth History Camp at Michigan's Heritage Park
DESCRIPTION:Youth 7 to 12 years old have an opportunity to become immersed in the world of living history during a week-long camp this summer at Michigan’s Heritage Park in Whitehall. Campers will explore the daily lives of some of Michigan’s earliest residents as they practice prehistoric spear throwing at the Atlatl course and learn how to survive on limited resources as an early settler. They will learn about the lives of lumberjacks at the Logging Shanty and will create their own log mark.  \nThe camp will be held from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch and snack. The cost of the week-long camp is $120 for Museum members and $150 for non-members. Six scholarships are available for youth who live in Whitehall and Montague.  \nThe camp registration form\, medical consent form\, and scholarship application can be found on the Museum website under the Program tab.

DESCRIPTION:STEM Workshops are focused programs made to dive deep into a topic to understand all the aspects about it. \nWorkshops include videos\, creating models\, designing experiments\, and fun activities. \nJune 20-Roller Coasters \nWhy does a roller coaster make our stomach feel like its falling? How do engineers design and test out roller coasters so they are safe? What materials are best to make a roller coaster? These questions and more will be answered as attendees learn about and build several types of small roller coasters. \nJune 27-Foundries \nThis workshop will discuss how a foundry operates and what their importance is to Muskegon. DESCRIPTION:STEM Workshops focus on deep dive of a singular theme. \nJune 18th – Architectural Construction of the Past \nLearn about how buildings and other structures have been constructed throughout history as we take a look at different buildings and make miniature replicas. We will also take a walk to view the architecture of the Hackley & Hume historic homes and compare their styles. \nJune 25th – Tin Punching \nDuring the 1700’s\, Tinsmiths were making their way around North America with crafted goods. DESCRIPTION:STEM Workshops are focused programs made to dive deep into a topic to understand all the aspects about it. \nWorkshops include videos\, creating models\, designing experiments\, and fun activities. \nJune 20-Roller Coasters \nWhy does a roller coaster make our stomach feel like its falling? How do engineers design and test out roller coasters so they are safe? What materials are best to make a roller coaster? These questions and more will be answered as attendees learn about and build several types of small roller coasters. \nJune 27-Foundries \nThis workshop will discuss how a foundry operates and what their importance is to Muskegon.
