DESCRIPTION:Home School students in grades K – 6 are invited to join us for a 500 year journey on the waterways of Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake as we examine how water transportation has changed. From Native American dugout canoes to modern day Lake Freighters\, students will learn about how different modes of transportation were constructed and what they were used for. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered what an owl eats? You can find out by disecting an owl pellet during a special Spring Break program at the Museum. Owls are a top predator in the forests and fields of Michigan and their diet consists of rodents\, shrews\, moles\, and songbirds. The program is for ages 5 and up\, participants 5 to 7 will need adult assistance. The cost of the program is $2 per person. Pre-registration is not required.

DESCRIPTION:Michigan’s Heritage Park in Whitehall OPEN for the season on May 2! During the month of May\, the park will be open weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm. The park will be open on Saturday\, May 21 from 10 am to 4 pm as park of a Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard promotion. Beginning June 2\, the park will be open Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sundays from 1 to 4 pm. During October\, the park will revert back to the weekdays only schedule.

DESCRIPTION:The Hackley & Hume Historic Site\, Fire Barn Museum\, and Scolnik House of the Depression Era will open for the season today.  All three sites will be open Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. Sunday hours are 1 to 4 pm. Admission at the Hackley & Hume Historic Site is $7 for adults and teens\, $5 for 65 and older\, and visitors 12 and younger are admitted free.  Admission is free at the Fire Barn Museum and Scolnik House.  The three sites will be open through October.

SUMMARY:Civil War Weekend - Heritage Park
DESCRIPTION:Learn about military and civilian life at the time of the Civil War during this special weekend at Michigan’s Heritage Park in Whitehall. Tour a Civil War Camp set up in the park’s Activity Field and meet local reenactors.  The park will be open both days from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission for this special weekend is $12 for adults and teens\, $8 for 65 and older\, and $6 for youth 2 – 12. Admission for members at the Lumberjack Level and above is $2 a person. \n10 am to 2 pm – Children’s Activities at the mastodon site and drills at the top and bottom of the hour \n10:30 am – Drill by reenactors in Activity Field \n1:30 pm – Civilian and Military Fashion Show at the Pavilion \n2:30 pm – Skirmish at Activity Field

SUMMARY:Make and Take - Main Museum
DESCRIPTION:For $1 participants can make their own fish print from one the museum’s various rubber fish options including bluegill\, pike and trout.  This is a type of nature print that was first done with real fish in Japan and was called Gyotaku.  This program is open to any age participant\, though young children will need adult help. \nThis program will take place on the Main Museum’s front lawn from 11am-1:30pm.  No advance registration needed.  Parking will be limited due to Lakeshore Art Festival.

Trade booths will offer such items for sale as jewelry\, handmade crafts\, and bead work. Traditional Native food will be available for purchase. There will be Grand Entries at Noon and 6:30 pm Saturday. The event continues on Sunday with the Grand Entry at Noon. Sunday hours are 10 am to 4 pm.
