SUMMARY:Urban Renewal Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:In the late 1940s\, urban renewal began as cities faced a decline in their downtown business districts and neighborhoods. More people moved to the suburbs\, which caused downtown to struggle. Muskegon was no exception. \nStroll down 1960s Western Avenue\, visit the Muskegon Mall\, and explore visions for the future of downtown Muskegon. Learn about Muskegon’s own urban renewal experience in the 1960s and 1970s\, its decline\, and the development underway today. \nThe price of this exhibit is included in the general price of admission to the Museum\, which is free for Muskegon County residents and Museum members and $5 for out-of-county residents. \nThis activity is supported by the MICHIGAN ARTS AND CULTURE COUNCIL and the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.

Learn about the science behind wind drag and friction and how they interact with a parachute as you construct your own. See how gravity and air resistance work together to allow your parachute to float to safety within our wind tunnel. \n 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM Happy 100th Birthday Joe!  \n“Jumpin'” Joe Beyrle would turn 100 years old and in honor of his dedication to this country and amazing story we invite you to eat cake in his honor\, while supplies last! \n  \nAt the USS Silversides Museum (free with membership or purchase of admission): \n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Build a Jumpin’ Joe!\nConquer the skies just like Jumpin’ Joe Beyrle! Create your own Paratrooper\, design your parachute\, and watch it take flight with the USS Silversides Submarine in the background!
